A little bit about who I am and what drives me.
I'm Mausam Gurung, a machine learning engineer and researcher based in Kathmandu, Nepal. I work at the intersection of deep learning and medical imaging — training and evaluating models on retinal image datasets, building RAG-based medical intelligence systems, and fine-tuning vision-language models for clinical applications.
I hold a B.E. in Electronics, Communication & Information Engineering from Kathmandu Engineering College (Tribhuvan University). My path into ML started through robotics and embedded systems — from leading hardware workshops and deploying robotics curriculum in government schools to building computer vision pipelines with YOLO and PyTorch. That hands-on foundation in both hardware and software shaped how I approach machine learning problems today.
Currently, I'm focused on bridging the gap between cutting-edge computer vision research and practical applications for low income country. I believe technology should be able to provide value to everyone, regardless of the income level or geographic location.
